Realizing that next year will be the 50th anniversary of the 1965 release of Johnny West, I am wondering if there will be any special events planned on the board, or perhaps from CXR (special figure?). That would be nice but probably complicated, in light of the fact that CXR/Terri and Noah own the rights to Jed Gibson, Best of the West, Magic Marxie, Johnny West Adventures, Marx, etc., but there are others that either still claim the rights or unlawfully use the rights. Plus, others seem to own some of the original Marx molds, including plants in Mexico (where the 2001 re-issue knights/vikings were produced). Does CXR own the original Johnny West mold?
2015 could be a great year for Johnny West and collectors!

I can't speak for anyone but myself of course but am already working on special questions for JWU in light of the recent info posted by Dave.

Does anyone know if there was an official release date back in 1965? Or should we just pick a date for his birthday? January 1st is already jam packed with stuff but maybe we can come up with a consensus and try to build something around it!

Hey Mitch,
The Pl Books Order dates were like Mid Feb & Mid March for molds etc so if you figure recieve , production Packaging Shipping & SO on later in the year perhaps .
Maybe Scott will chime in as he has a logic about When products were Produced versus Toy Fairs & Then Ultimatly Xmas etc.
According to Speaker from Girard always a Mad dash to get things to Sample so they could take to toyfairs so they could get orders for xmas Season & I think i heard some one say there would be layoffs after xmas season for a short time etc etc.
So My Point was his b day Design or Proto or sold Dates Getting way too specific here any way just an fyi the original Pl order sheet did not say Johnny West just something like Cowboy body etc if memory serves .
If some one would dig thru Scotts Pl Site listing it is probably there.

According to the PL books: Date Ordered: 2/5/65 Delivery Date: 3/22/65 Date Received: 3/31/65
No real way of knowing when the 'first' Johnny was pushed out of the 'womb' - 'mold' but I would vote for March 31st, 1965 as Johnny's Bday. I'm sure they made some quick sets for salesman and catalogs and such before starting mass production for store stock. The accessory molds were delivered about a month after the body mold...

Scott That's around the time I first knew of him, but I was obsessed with getting a G.I. Joe, so that's all I was focused on. I didn't get a Johnny until the next year. Terry

In one of the museum presentations over the years we were told that the molds arrived in Glen Dale on May 21st. Lee
