Anyone know the "trick" to switching heads on the QUICK-DRAW JOHNNY WEST figures?
The arms appear to be attached differently from the regular JOHNNY springs setup - presumably to allow for operating the internal mechanism used for the QD feature of the right hand/arm. Can these arms be removed so that heads can be released and replaced?
Thanks for any info.

I don't have the Quick draw Johnny, but I did acquire a disassembled Quick draw Sam Cobra some time back. If the two are made the same, you would have to force the abdomen apart as it is hollow and glued together much similar to a Thunderbolt horse body! The head is held in by a plastic pin at the same notch in the neck where the spring would normally pass through. You risk damage to force the body apart or the head out.Proceed with cation. If you would like photos of the inside of Sam, let me know and i will dig him out so you can decide how to approach your project.

Thanks for the info. I had figured much the same as I couldn't see getting the torso apart without actually cracking the seam (i.e. thin, hard plastic as opposed to the material used for the limps). I have a complete QD JOHNNY with a nice torso and good limbs/hands, but the face is in rougher shape (a couple of nicks and hair loss). I have another Johnny HEAD which is in really fine shape. I was hoping to swap the head. I thought that if the arms could be SAFELY removed from the shoulders, then the head would come off easily. Reverse the procedure to put on the replacement head.

Well I really went out on a limb this time! I forgot I had assembled that QD Sam body to create one of what I refer to as the "Bad Dastardly Brothers" (Real bad guys! ) But in the interest of science and sharing of Marx technology (and the fact I used hot glue to reattach the torso halves) I opened him up for an exploratory (I feel like a med student dependent upon stolen cadavers) So here he is! OOPS wrong picture! As I had mentioned earlier, I obtained this Sam already in this condition (I am guessing the peg that held the head in was broken and they were attempting to repair. They did a good job of opening him up! Sadly I did not get all the internal parts. I will picture what I have. Note that I replaced the broken peg with a wall of hot glue(good stuff for some things, due to its removability) so the head stays in. this still allows side to side movement. The photo of the legs do not tell the whole story, there is a coil spring within that center part(smaller than those found in regular figures) that still attaches to hip rivets. As you can tell, there is no removing the arms without dismantling the body. Hope this was helpful RRK

Thanks for the pix. Nice to see that Sam has guts! The mechanism does look a little too complicated to risk swapping heads and not getting Quick-Draw properly back together again . . . in top working order (as he is now).

Thanks Ramrod. I have a couple, but they are in pretty good shape, so was worried about opening them up. Really appreciated the picture. The skeleton was hilarious. ;D
Thanks, Lee
