Seller believes that the BRUNETTE Josie (second from the left in the photo) is original from the factory and not a custom/repaint job on the hair.
Anyone here have the inside scoop on whether or not JOSIE was ever produced as a "brunette"?

With the blond hair showing underneath, I'm betting it's a repaint. Factory should have a white undercoat if any....

I would need to see a better picture to tell. It is possible they did josie heads for janice as they did that with jay and jamie.

The mouth is also painted red. I've never seen red lips on one of these figures so I would say probably some kid repainted it.

I have several JOSIES and JANICES . . . and they all have varying shades of PINK lips - from light to dark (near red) - painted at the factory.
The brunette "Josie" is still a bit of a mystery, huh?

I am pretty sure red/pink lips are standard with josie and janice. Maybe the only way to find out is to win the auction.
