York, PA toy show on the 28th Nov. It was a great show. I picked up the following items: Boxed gold knight and horse, boxed comanche Loose geronimo for $3 Boxed Captain Action Loose Pinto about 50 loose accessories But the best was a trade deal I did with Tom Stine (some of you folks probably know him from the Marx conventions) - his wife (Penny) had a boxed Princess Wildflower in the ultra rare department store mailer box. We haggled, I offered and the deal was completed! You can see a picture if you go to : www.stewartsattic.com/marx/figures/figureinfocombined.cfm?Title=Princess3Wildflowerand click on the Series 2 link. I'll be adding better pictures into a new section I've decided to do called something like 'The Rare and the Odd'... This will be a place for those holy grails, weird, odd, rare to just plain really, really hard to find items. Also met new ranchers Randy and Mindy at a table... Nice to actually see / meet folks! How do I get on the Toy Show circuit!? Seriously,,, ya'll are always,(well, not always; my mother was a school teacher, & used to correct me all the time,,, so I'll start again) Greetings friends! It seems that many of my fellow Ranchers are frequently talking about Toy Shows they've been to, or are going to!! Might there be a list somewhere, of scheduled Toy Shows, around this country of ours!!?? Sure I live 4 hours north of San Francisco, in the Redwoods, but for a chance at scoring some of what I've seen my compadres score; I'd get on my horse & travel for days!!! Muchos Gracias!

The best way I think is via print. Lots of promoters are still in the stone age for online. If you have flea markets around, check with the vendors there. Search online for toy soldier shows. Word of mouth got me lots of leads.

Just sat through 1.5 hours of Barbies at an auction to bid on a loose Jeb Gibson with hat and rifle. Old people really need to learn about Ebay! Here is what everything Marx sold for. If you need cash you obviously need to come to Lincoln to sell your toys.
Johnny West: No box with hat, vest, gunbelt, and coffee pot. $55 Jane West: No box with skirt, vest, hat, and Janice/Josey purse. $55 Palamino TBolt: Tack "glued" on. $75 Sam Cobra: Red Box with hat, safe, and Johnny vest. $110 Custer: No box but wearing Johnny chaps, gunbelt, vest, and hat. $90 and finally Jed Gibson as described above. $375
This is I suspect why all the prices have been shooting up the last year at antique stores. Insane!!!

Hey Dave and all, I'm also going to the Gettysburg, PA toy soldier show tomorrow. Not really a 'toy' show as it deals mainly with the little guys but fun none the less and I'm meeting a couple of folks to sell stuff too.... so I'm psyched! Scott

If I sold my collection at the Lincoln prices I could replace it twice and still have plenty left for a vaction. Do they ever resell anything?

The people buying were for the most part buying lots of Barbie stuff also. I have to assume they are antique dealers but misinformed ones. There is a boxed Jane sitting in a display cabinet at a local shop for $300 and has been there for over two years. I have tried to politely point out this is ridiculous but was told they had seen one like in a nearby town listed at $450 so this is a deal! Once again the difference between asking price and selling price doesn't seem to matter.

One of my favorite shows ib Pawn Stars. People asume their antiques and collectibles are worth huge sums of money. Most are worth something but nothing like they have in mind. One would think antique dealers may have a clue but many seem to have none. The upside is that undersell at times too.

Completely agree! The biggest problem I think is people assume they know everything about antiques because they go to shops, auctions, and garage sales. They don't recognize that the info they see is not always correct. I am sure some people at this auction will be buying Marx stuff at ridiculous prices because they assume the prices paid yesterday are true.

Not toys but a good example: Three years ago I went to my uncles farm auction. Two of his grandsons bid each other up on an antique windwheel weight. It ending up selling for over two hundred due to a family attachment. Depending on subject these sell for fifty to seventy-five. Two weeks later I stop at an antique store about 50 miles away and all of his weights are listed at $200. I start talking to the lady and it turns out she was at the sale and thought she had struck it rich!

The Johnny and Jane from two weekends ago just showed up in an antique store in a little town close by with a price tag of $125 each. In addition two beat overpriced TBolts from another store are now on sale in the same booth for twice what the previous owner had asked. Something tells me my Craigs List ad and any hope of finding reasonable pricing for awhile is done!
