I just recieved my fourth set of chaps in an Ebay lot. Unlike the first three that had smooth leg straps, this set has a double row of stitches molded into them. These pics are a littles fuzzy, but I think they show the stitching detail well enough. Does anyone know the story behind these stitched chaps? Thanks, Canis ![](http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg206/caniswalensis/Johnny%20West/IMG_1759.jpg) ![](http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg206/caniswalensis/Johnny%20West/IMG_1761.jpg)

WOW! Cool. The more you think you know... I saw this and said to myself... Knockoff. But then I went down to the johnnyCave and looked at my parts bin and sure nuff, I have several pairs in brown and black that have the stitching. I have a couple of pair that you can barely see the stitching... Interestingly, the ones with stitching have mold numbers of 1 or 2 inside the belt and they are the pre-74, thinner versions. All my thick ones do not have stitch marks. So, my opinion is that they are vintage Johnny West from the 1st and 2nd mold of the chaps. Likely from 65-67. Good eyes Canis! Scott

Thanks Scott! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The Chaps I have seem to be the thinner sort as well, at least in comparison to the one JWA set I have. I am curious now about JW knock-offs. I collect both GI JOE, and the higher Quality knock-offs, so knock-offs always get me interested. What sort of knock-offs inhabit the world of Johnny West? Do people consider Plastimarx products to be in that catagory? Regards, Canis

Generally, there are few knockoffs in Johnny town - much less than in the GI Joe world. Hong Kong or China did some blow molded Johnny's and their accessories are considered knockoff. There are also some dual holster belts in a vinyl rubber (actually quite good) but those are also knockoffs.
I'll speak for the group and say we don't consider the Plastimarx, Suay Sport or any other licensed manufactured accessories / figures as knockoff. Just as Action Man is not considered KO in the Joe community.

Cool, thanks for the info. I am glad to hear the plastimarx is not looked down on. I have been thing of it more as a cool variation myself. The Action Man comparison is spot-on, though.
Now my feverish brain is burning to see a JW knock-off. Do you have any pictures? Are they rare? Do people collect them?
Such is my sick mania for knock-offs of my favorite toys that I already want to own one. lol

Speaking for myself . . . while the Plastimarx figures may not be "knock-offs" in the truest sense of the term, I personally prefer the figures made in the USA and CANADIAN factories (i.e. there just seems to be something about the "heft" of the plastic which is different from the material used in the Mexican products).
