Hey Gang....... just thought I would share this moment of sentiment.
My Dad still lives in Phoenix in the house of my child hood. Recently he asked me to re-landscape his backyard as he no longer wants to work so hard to maintain all of the greenery. He decided to remove the lawn and replace it with ornamental stone (as is customarily done here to save water). So I commenced to digging up all the grass and removing the necessary amount of dirt. After removing about 9/10ths of it, I commented to him that I was disappointed at not having found at least one of my old toys buried in the soil, not even one green army guy! ( of which I had hundreds if not thousands). He commented that he was not surprised too much, as he recalled how I cared for my possessions.( his comment mas more of a reflection of how organized I was, though not necessarily tidy).
As I endeavored to remove the remainder of the top soil, Low and Behold, I turned up Chief Cherokees War Rattle ! Mind you, even though the plastic had held up quite well, it was not in pristine condition. Some time after its disappearance (most like very soon after I lost it) it came into contact with the blade of the dreaded lawn mower! Alas.... minus the end of the handle (and wrist strap ) here I held in my hand a part of a most cherished childhood toy ! We had not been in contact in 47 years !
No I did not tear up, but you can bet that I still have it !
Just thought I would share !
