I resolve to: ... stop being jealous of east coast toy collectors who have access to better Marx items than I do in the midwest. ... finish the museum cataloging process I started in 2009 on my collection. ... finally start the website of my collection I have been planning since 2010. ;D Happy New Year Everyone.

Those east coasters can just deal with us being jealous of them.
I need to do the website thing too.

I resolve to finish my first phase of collecting by obtaining a Fighting Eagle figure of which I have never owned. :-( :-) TW

Its hard to keep a resolution about being envious of east coast collectors when you spend three hours at a toy show and see nothing Marx action figure related! Lots of farm toys, Nascar, Barbie, and Breyer.

One thing about farmers in the winter: they spend money. My brother sold over $1600.00 in farm toys at the fremont show. :-)
I've seen more marx out here in co than i did in ne. Dj

Once again this resolution about jealousy is difficult to keep! Spent 4 hours at a huge show yesterday and came up with a grand total of six Marx figures and three horses. None were complete and only one (gold knight) were boxed. All the horses were missing all to most tack. All overpriced, I am still blaming the auction two years ago where items sold for 3 and 4 times value. I am so bummed I can't make it to Wheeling again!

No and any reasonably informed person will not buy either! I don't mind people making a profit but some dealers are just ridiculous!

What is considered, in everyone's estimation, figures being overpriced? With prices on e-bay lately, I am confused.TW

A valid point Tumbleweed! Here is what I saw and prices if I am remembering correctly. Depending on your area of the country maybe these are justified but by NE/IA rates they are high.
Boxed Gold Knight with approximately half of his accessories at $150 Sam Cobra loose for $40 (Dealer did come down from $50) Carmel Jay and Turquoise Josey loose at $35 each or $60 for the pair. (Same Dealer as Sam Cobra) Johnny #1: Hat and Vest $50 or $60 can't remember which one was which. Johnny #2: Hat, Vest, Gunbelt, and Coffee Pot $50-$60 see above Roan Pancho with saddle $35 Palamino TBolt no tack $25 Roan TBolt missing 2 wheels and no tack $25 The guy with the horses offered me all three for $60 and seemed offended when I countered at $20!

It is the old standard: An item is worth whatever one is willing to pay for it.Which, for eBay, does fit in nicely with its "auction" format. Of course, this is NOT exactly correct when it comes to the B.I.N. (fixed price) format. Not sure where some SELLERS get their valuations ( ). TRUE: The more "rare" the figure is, the more difficult it is to price. The more common figures, however, should not have crazy prices . . . although some SELLERS have no idea which items are actually HTF and which are not; they simply list any Johnny West item as "rare." My rule of thumb: If "gut instinct" tells me the price seems crazy, then I do some more homework. There are 3 or 4 sites out there which are really good for getting some balance as to reasonable prices to pay. (These sites have been referred to several times in other postings in this forum, so I won't list them here.) --------------------------- P.S. The trick is to not get caught up in a hasty purchase because of the excitement of the moment and then end up overpaying. This is one way to account for the inflated values of these figures and accessories. Once, I was tempted to get into the auction fever with the elusive "SEARS BLACK/WHITE PINTO." I set my limit at $250. The bidding passed that point and I was tempted to jump in again . . . but didn't. It sold for over $350. Fortunately, another horse appeared some time later - similar condition, etc. - which I was able to bid on and win for well below $350. Sometimes, patience has its rewards. ;D

I'm just glad I was able to build a nice collection without getting caught up in too much overspending. Yes, I've paid too much on occasion, but have made up for it with some very good deals. All in all, if I had to sell tomorrow, I think I could at least break even & maybe profit a bit. It's never been about the money for me anyway.
