This conglomeration is from my childhood. I don't know the history behind a lot of it, only that it's been around as long as I remember, but I'm guessing the majority came from repeated trips to the 2nd hand store owned by family friends which was about the the only place we shopped when my mom & grandma were earning a whopping .50 an hour at the nursing home. The "day glo" animals must have belonged to my little brother, as I wouldn't have had them. For some reason, I hated it when they started molding things (especially Cowboys & Indians) in those bright colors. That metal tractor/machinery set is like new. All I can think is that my grandma bought it when we were older & it didn't get played with, but then she never did come to grips with us growing up. She still thought I was a little boy when I was 40, lol. Terry As far as I know, this barn only came with a wind-up tractor. I belive it was called the "Magic Barn". Attachments:

Here's my new project, a late night ebay buy which I got for the minimum bid of $10.00. I think this is the oldest version as it doesn't have the notches on the roof for the cupolas. It cleaned up real nice with very little playwear & no broken tabs. This is the set I wanted as a kid, but every year when the Christmas catalogs came out, there was always something cooler that took precedence, lol. I have a few of the correct pieces, but this will probably be a long term project as some of the accessories can be fairly expensive. Terry Attachments:

Good call on the day glow animals. I like the scarecrows. The new barn looks like an interesting project. I saw a marx service station at an antique store today. No accessories just the tin litho building. If it is stil there next time I go perhaps I can talk down the price.

If you can get the building, the rest is usually available on Ebay. Be prepared to spend a little...most of the pieces seem pricey. I opted for the 1995 repro (Sears version) I found at a flea market a couple years ago. I haven't set it up yet for lack of space, but it will be soon. I started on the "new" farm today & it's looking good. I'm watching some pieces on Ebay, but the silo just went up to $20 so I'll probably have to settle for some smaller stuff.

Good news...I threw in a bid before I went to work & won the silo for 21.50, which is about as cheap as you'll find one in nice condition. Very surprised my bid held up for 10 hours & it didn't get sniped at the last second. I usually don't have that kind of luck on Ebay, lol.

LOL! That barn looks really familiar to me Did not know it was Marx. need to check details.... but if my barn was Marx some of the machinery (tractor/wagon/hayrake) is still here or at my Mom's in a plastic bag I think. Does anyone have a link , description. or pics of the accessories? Nance

Nance, I don't have any pics or much info, but the Marx farms were by far the most common, so odds are that's what it was. Also, kids mixed all the different sets around so much & there were so many variations, I doubt many people truly know what's actually Marx, but most of it seems to get advertized as such. I'm far from an expert, but if you run across the pieces & feel like posting pics, I could probably identify them.

Congrats on the silo. I've had some bids that held up for over 24 hours myself, it was rather shocking.

Thanks. Turned out the other pieces I was watching which usually go cheap sold for more than the silo, so if I hadn't won it I wouldn't have gotten anything. I don't know what's up with the farm sets lately...when I first thought about this project about a year ago, mostly complete boxed ones were averaging $75-100. I've already got over $50 in this one & I'm not even halfway done, lol.
