Howdy Ranchers!! Well, I'm happy to announce that a year later, I've finally completed the 1st of 3 1/6th scale Limber Wagons & Cannons! One down, 2 to go! The 2 & 3rd Wagons & Cannons are built, what remains is to create the wheels!! But this, the 1st is ready for action!!! AS the album shows, a lot of time, attention to detail, wood work, miniature metal fabrication, & molding/sculpting/painting/varnishing, went into the creation of this piece! I was gonna say 1 of a kind, but by the time I'm done, it'll be 3 of a kind!!! Then of coarse I'll have to build a Fort Apache facade (like my buildings) to display the Limber Wagons & Cannons in front of!! I've attached one pix, but here's a link to the PhotoBucket Album, which shows many angles, as well as the project, from start to finish!!! Let me know what ya'll think!! I hope ya'z like it,,, it's been a Labor of Love! Adios Compadres! Mykol, I am in awe of you're talent and patience. I have served on the full scale version at re-enactments and in film and can really appreciate the attention to detail. The cannon tube has the appearance of a 6 lb field howitzer, dead on for the set-up. I hate to add to your work load, but if you make 3 more, you could have two sections of two guns each which would constitute a full artillery battery. If you haven't already, check out Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John at the Virginia Military Institute. You are amazing! Thanks for sharing.

Thanx ya'll!! I'm really psyched ya like it!! I can't wait to get the next 2 done, soze I can have a platoon of them side buy side, of coarse, I'll have to build a Fort Apache facade, to display them in front of! I'm glad the link to the photobucket album worked, soze ya'll could see the process, from start to finish, & when I say process, I ain't kiddin'! The harnesses are from an eBay seller I made on-line friends with after the 1st several Chuck Wagons, & Medicine Wagons I built! After buying quite a few pairs at his eBay price, I approached him about wholesale prices, which he gladly did!! During the research/construction of the Limber Wagons & Cannons, I realized most Cannon this size, required a 4 Horse Team, where as I'd been thinking 2 Horse Teams,,, so I need to email him & get 3 more sets!!! Thanx again for checkin' it out Ranchers,,, ya'll are the folks I really wanted feedback from!!! 1 down 2 to go!! Adios, Mykol Attachments:

Wow Tumbleweed,,, we must have been workin' on our reply at the same time, cuz yerz wasn't there when I started the previous reply, & I was wonderin' what to refer to the group of them, when I finished all 3!! Ya see, this all started cuz I scored the 3 Cannon Barrels on eBay! They are solid cast iron, & as soon as I got them in the mail, this is what I envisioned!! I'd love to be able to get my hands on more, if ya ever see any let me know!! When I get my shop up & runnin' again (Table Shit the Bed!) I'd been thinkin' of tryin' to reproduce the Cannon Barrels out of Oak, on a Lathe!! That's really fascinating that yer part of a squad that does re-enactments!!! I have another friend I grew up with, who also does that!! I'd be really interested in hearing more about that!! What films!!! Where do your re-enactments take place!! In the tons of research I did on the subject I found quite a few YouTube videos,,, here's just one, & when ya watch it, you'll see more on the sidebar! youtu.be/6Ycx45C8JlE Also of the films I watched on the subject I must say, I was most impressed by the re-enactors who took part in this battle in the movie Gods & Generals!! Here's a link to a clip of that film, in which the Limber Wagons & Cannons are called into action!! youtu.be/ucrVfUr4_ZA This scene was indeed an inspiration, seeing the Wagons rolled onto the battle field!! & the fact that they were painted Orange, was even cooler!! While I was shootin' more for Fort Apache Cannons, this research & these videos helped keep me movin' forward!! Again,,, What films have ya been in Tumbleweed!!?? I'd be interested in gettin them fer my collection! If I don't already have them!! I hope ya'll enjoy the YouTube videos!! Adios Compadres!! Mykol Attachments:

Don't expect to see my ugly mug in any of the films. I am a volunteer with the U.S. Department of the Interior and help co-ordinate historical presentations and oversee authenticity in the programs for the public. I couldn't get off work for the God's and Generals movie, but I had a lot of friends there. I was part of the group that was filmed for the opening scenes of the Confederate troops portion fo the Movie Glory. There were nearly 11,000 of us. You can see my name in the credits for some of the Big battles that have been made in the last several years. As for the artillery scenes in the video they had it almost accurate. The front left horse is the best trained and lead horse. He would have a rider on his back constantly communicating with him on what to do. The other three were trained to follow his lead. They correctly had the members of the piece running along side. If they were booking it, one would jump on the back horse on the left side ant two more would jump on the limber seat, lock their center arms together, use their outside arms to grab the handles on the sides of the limber, and hold on foe dear life. I've got a small brass tube on a carriage that's just a little smaller scale than the one's you have. It would probably be a 1/6 scale 3 lb. rev war cannon. Google Paulson Brothers Ordinance and tell me what you think. I can tell you from experience that a 10 lb. Parrott gun is loud, but a 20 lb is a lot louder.

Wow Tumbleweed! Thanx fer the heads up on the correct horse, to have the saddle on! I'll move it right away!! & How cool that you're a volunteer with the U.S. Department of the Interior and help co-ordinate historical presentations and oversee authenticity in the programs for the public. Also very cool that you're in "Glory," havin' grown up in Massachusetts, that movie is special to me! Thanx for the link to Paulson Bros. Ordinance,,, now I have even more reference material for the completion of the next 2 Limber Wagons & Cannons!! Attachments:

Howdy Ranchers!! I've added even more pix to the album"Limber Wagon & Cannon Project!" Wanted to include pretty much my entire Fort Apache Fighters Force, as well as portray them on the move! As Tumbleweed suggested, I've mounted Soldiers on the left, front & rear horses, of the 4 horse team; the Captain, still has the reigns, though, & Jed is facing the rear, watchin' their backs, & a 5th trooper, is on foot!! Here's the link again!! Enjoy the pix!! s149.photobucket.com/albums/s52/Mykol-707/Johnny%20West%20Dioramas%20with%20my%20Old%20West%20Buildings/The%20%20One%20Sixth%20Scale%20Cannon%20Project/ Adios Amigos! Attachments:

Thanx to all for checkin' it out!!! I know it's "Preachin' to the Choir," as they say; as far as an appreciative audience goes; cuz of our shared love for these figures!!! However, I want ya to know I've loved all yer feedback! & Thanx Dave & Donna for the personal email, with the mold spray tips!! Tumbleweed,,what can I say, once an expert on a certain subject, tells me how it's spoze to be, well then,,, that's the way it'll be! As the album shows, in the beginning stages of construction, I'd built the frame of the Under Carraige/Caisson in more of a Revolutionary War, Era Style; strivin' fer historical accuracy, I furthered my research, and changed the design, to fit the era, of the Fort Apache Fighters!! Further research also showed a 4 Horse Team, so the quest for 4 wheeled Bay Thunderbolts began, as well as the quest for some more heavy duty harnesses!!! So,, as soon as ya told me how they went mobile, I had to do another photo shoot!! Thanx again ya'll fer checkin' it out!! Long Live Johnny West! Attachments:
