These are sort of like matchbox cars as they all came in the same sized box but were a variety of scales. These were produced from the late 60s up until the early 80s.  Boxes. The earliest were on bubble cards but I don't have those. The earliest I have here is the Fokker Tri-Plane which was a solid box.  The artwork was on the back of the boxes along with some stats. There were dashed outlines to cut out the pictures to make collector cards.  Of course Smokey was right behind me. We are down in the buildup/basement.  WWI fighters.  View #2. The WWI fighters are the largest in scale thus have more details.  1930s fighter.  The monoplane on the right was a Russian plane used in WWII. Looks a lot like a Bee Gee racer which would make it ancient by WWII standards.  WWII Axis planes. The Stuka is the tank buster version which is may fave here.  Backside view.  Allied fighter planes.  The Thunderbolt seems to be the best of this lot. They added more details as the line went on.  Pacific theater planes.  The Skyraider was known for the Vietnam war but I think it was developed near the end of WWII. |

Time for the larger planes  The B29 is the smallest of the lot even though in real life it was the largest.   Tail gun view.  Most of the planes had folding wheels and some had other moving parts like the bomb bay on the Lancaster.  Float planes.  The Japaneese plane has the most details of this lot. The later models tend to be more valuable as there were less of them.  Cargo and passenger planes.   Huey and Cobra of Vietnam fame.  And wrapping it up with the Jolly Green giant.  Wrapping it up some more with Carson who fell asleep during the photo shoot. |

I got my first two mini planes on my 6th birthday (1969) then they multiplied through out my childhood. Being interested in WWII, I always wondered why I couldn't find more Japanese aircraft except for the Zero, Tony & Emily float plane. So many years later, with access to the internet, I now know why. Most of the other WWII Japanese listed on the sheet (that came with every Mini Plane) were JAPAN ONLY items. Only now can I see what these models looked like and what a premium they are fetching on online auction sites. Great collection and thanks for the memories.
